This Preceptory was consecrated and dedicated at Taunton on the 27th February 1920, by the Very High and Eminent Great Senishal, Colonel C.W.Napier-Clavering, assisted by officers of Great Priory and of Provincial Priory.

There were a total of 13 founder members, and the first Eminent Preceptor was Knight J.A.Macdonald, a founder and Past Master of the Lodge of St.George No.3158.

A Preceptor's Baton, still in use, was generously presented on that occasion by the Provincial Prior V.E.Kt.Col.A.Thrale Perkins, who at that time was the Provincial Prior of Somerset, Monmouth and South Wales.

The selection of “King Ina” as the name of the Preceptory was very appropriate and apt. King Ina had strong connections with Taunton, having built a castle there in 700. He is also noted for the manner in which he introduced laws and government, some of which exist to this day. A devout Christian he granted many lands and properties in the Taunton are to the Bishops of Winchester. According to the Venerable Bede, King Ina came to power in 688 and reigned for nearly 40 years. He abdicated in 726, and died whilst on a pilgrimage to Rome.

The Preceptory banner, dedicated at Taunton on the 8th October 1987, depicts a crown over the Red Dragon of Wessex, to commemorate that King Ina was the King of Wessex. The banner also contains a representation of balanced scales to show that he was a just and fair King and renowned as a law maker. The sword held by the dragon is an indication of the guardianship of Christian Faith by the Knights Templar.

V.E.Kt.David was ably assisted by various members of the Priory not least with the help and guidance of the Priory Mareschal E.Kt. Chris Summers, with E.Kt.Brian Porter being invited to confer the Degree of Knight of St.Paul.

The Lecture and History of the Order was admirably delivered by E.Kt.Jon Cozens, E.Kt.Bill Warren, E.Kt.Mark Bajona and Bro.Kt. David O’Callaghan. The R.E.Knight Barry Burridge KCT was invited to present the Accolade which he graciously agreed to do.

After the Installation of Bro Kt. Richard, V.E.Kt.David continued in the same superb manner and installed E.Kt. Nigel Handbury as Prior of the King Ina Priory for the forthcoming year.

E.Kt.Nigel then preceded to appoint and invest his Officers in a very dignified and warm manner.

The evening ended with the customary excellent Festive Board which was richly enjoyed by all those that attended.

October 2016

February 2017

A most enlightening evening was enjoyed by more than fifty (50) Knights who attended the King Ina meeting in Taunton last Thursday, 9th February, when R.E.Kt.Barry D Burridge K.C.T. the Provincial Prior for Somerset, accompanied by a grand number of Provincial Officers including the Provincial 1st Constable E.Kt. David Nelson and Provincial 2nd Constable E.Kt. John Dunford conducted a Splendid Ceremony of Dedication of The Holy Bible that was so generously gifted and presented to King Ina by V.E.Kt. David Lloyd Jenkins PGtRegistrar , Provincial Chancellor.

V.E.Kt. David gave a fine presentation address to the Knights as why he was led to present it, as did later the Provincial Prelate, E.Kt.Fripp Easthope PGtStdB(B) in respect of the Very Precious Value of Gods Holy Word and its importance to us as Members of this illustrious Christian Order of Knights Templar.

It would be remiss not to mention the very high standard of the work which was overseen by the EKt.Roger Morss PPrReg Provincial Deputy Marshal and E.Kt.Alan Seager PGtA-de-C.

The evening culminated with an excellent Festive Board which was enjoyed by All.

Yours in the Bonds of the Order

                                                      E.Kt. Brian C. R. Porter PGtA-de-C

Registrar King Ina Preceptory.
