Dodrans is a Latin contraction of de-quadrans which means "a whole unit less a quarter" (de means "from"; quadrans means "quarter"). 175 years is a quarter century less than the next whole (bi)century or 175 = (-25 + 200)

Fund Raising

The Panel set up in 2017 to formulate a schedule of fund raising to commemorate this rapidly approaching anniversary, have recommended the following actions to mark this unique occasion.  

  1. The Cystic Fibrosis Comfort Fund; and,
  2. Ups and Downs.

This is the Charity officially support by the Order.

Based in Jerusalem, this hospital provides ophthalmic care of high quality and relevance to people of the Holy Land irrespective of race, creed, social class or ability to pay.

Cystic Fibrosis Comfort Fund?

A Charity with which the Provincial Prior has a close association.

Cystic Fibrosis is one of the UK's most common, life-limiting, inherited diseases. It affects the internal organs, especially the lungs and digestive system,

The Cystic Fibrosis Comfort Fund is a small Bristol based charity, which aims to help those who suffer from Cystic Fibrosis and to enhance their quality of life.

Relief Chest

A Relief Chest in the name of ‘The Provincial Priory of Somerset’ has been set up specifically to retain charritable donations.  Details of any donantion received for the Relief Chaest will be carefully noted and recorded. Additional contributions will also be made by the Province.

It is hoped your Preceptory will be sympathetic to these recommendations, and prove to be a major factor ensuring this most singular and  important event is celebrated in a noteworthy and memorable manner bringing credit to the Province and much satisfaction to all members.

Some Knights may also wish to make individual donations to the KT Relief Chest under the Gift Aid scheme, and these too will be recorded and recognised separately.  

The necessary forms are obtainable from the Provincial Treasurer who will also be pleased to deal with any queries concerning this particular item or the Relief Chest in general.
